Directors Michael Ruel and Mike Grimley obtained a complete defense verdict in a maritime action in the federal District Court for the Southern District of Florida arising out of a boat fire in the client’s marina storage yard. The claimant sought over $600,000 in damages for repairs to the vessel and loss of use for a development in the Bahamas. Through strategic and numerous objections during the trial, claimant was unable to establish no more than $100,000 in damages, which was the combined pretrial settlement offer from all defendants. The Court determined that the claimant failed to establish any fault on the defendants caused the boat fire. The Court also found in favor of our client on its counterclaim for unpaid storage and repairs to the claimant’s boat in excess of $30,000 plus costs and attorney’s fees in prevailing on this claim.
