Galloway Animal Law Attorney Wins Highly Contested Dog Bite Case

Featured: Anna Pearl Kirkpatrick

Director Anna Kirkpatrick recently won summary judgment on a highly contested dog bite case in Florida. When the Plaintiff was bit by a foster dog, the legal dispute centered on the legal definition of “owner” under Florida’s dog bite statute and who the legal owner of the dog was – the rescue organization or our client, who was fostering the dog.

Following argument and briefing on the matter, the Judge determined that our client was not the “owner” of the dog pursuant to the plain meaning of the word under the dog bite statute and entered summary judgment in Anna’s favor.

Anna began practicing animal & equine law with inspiration from her lifelong love of horses. A horse owner herself, she first focused on the equine industry before expanding her animal law practice. As evidenced by this win, she assists clients with risk mitigation and liability issues associated with various animals—both livestock and pets.

Galloway Johnson Tompkins Burr & Smith’s animal law attorneys go way above and way beyond in advising and partnering with clients in legal issues, including disputes over ownership, breeding rights, breaches of contract, and formulation of pet trusts. For liability issues, Galloway’s animal law attorneys tackle defense of injuries arising from animals such as dog bite claims and damage to property by livestock.
