Cynthia J. Thomas of Galloway, Johnson, Tompkins, Burr & Smith’s Mandeville Office Retires From Law
New Orleans, Louisiana (April 2, 2012) – Cynthia J. Thomas of Galloway, Johnson, Tompkins, Burr & Smith (GJTBS) is retiring after 33 years of practicing law. Cynthia has maintained a diverse civil defense practice for GJTBS in the Mandeville, Louisiana office since May 2004.
Cynthia J. Thomas served as Law Clerk to the Hon. Juan R. Torruella, U.S. District Court for the District of Puerto Rico (1980-1981). Upon moving to Panama, she joined the Panama Canal Commission (1982-1991) and held the position of Assistant General Counsel from 1988-1991. Returning to Puerto Rico, Cynthia became the Staff Attorney under the Civil Justice Reform Act for the U.S. District Court for the District of Puerto Rico (1992-1994). Back in the United States, she was employed as an attorney with the Board of Commissioners of the Port of New Orleans in 1994, becoming the Port’s Deputy General Counsel in 1996 (1994-1998). Entering private practice in 1998, Cynthia worked for Phelps, Dunbar as a Staff Attorney for the Maritime Group (1998-2000); and, as an attorney with Chopin, Wagar, Cole, Richard & Kutcher, LLP (2000 – 2004). She has been with Galloway, Johnson, Tompkins, Burr & Smith since May 2004. She became a Director of the firm in 2007.
Cynthia’s diverse civil defense practice included: property, insurance coverage, construction, products liability, subrogation, and with continued emphasis and expertise in the areas of general casualty defense.
Cynthia’ retirement plans include visiting Panama, Puerto Rico, and family which include a new grandchild.
