The Board of Commissioners of the Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority-East serves to coordinate regional flood protection by exercising authority over the East Jefferson, Lake Borgne Basin, Orleans, St. Tammany, and Tangipahoa Levee Districts.
Joe’s appointment follows nomination by an independent blue-ribbon committee of representatives from the National Academy of Engineering, National Society of Professional Engineers, American Institute of Hydrology, American Society of Civil Engineers, National Society of Black Engineers, Association of State Floodplain Managers, UNO College of Engineering, Southern University College of Engineering, Tulane School of Science and Engineering, LSU College of Engineering, Louisiana Geological Survey, Public Affairs Research Council (PAR), and the Council for a Better Louisiana (CABL).
The Flood Protection Authority’s mission is to ensure the physical and operational integrity of the regional flood risk management system, and to work with local, regional, state and federal partners to plan, design, and construct projects that will reduce the probability and risk of flooding for the residents that live within its jurisdiction. www.slfpae.com.

I understand well the role and mission of the Authority, and I will be a responsible steward of our citizens’ tax dollars. I look forward to working with the Governor’s Office, the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority, and our other state and federal partners to maximize our hurricane and flood protection efforts.”
