Galloway, Johnson, Tompkins, Burr & Smith Announces New Directors

New Orleans, LA, January 14, 2010–Galloway, Johnson, Tompkins, Burr & Smith is pleased to announce that Billy Swaim, James Bailey and Mike Lonegrass have become Directors of the Firm.

“These promotions reflect the notable and hard-earned achievements of a group of outstanding individuals,” said Managing Director Jason Waguespack.  “These lawyers have demonstrated exceptional dedication to the firm and its clients, and we congratulate each of them on this well-deserved accomplishment.”

Frederick W. (“Billy”) Swaim III joined the firm’s Maritime Section in 2003 after graduating from Tulane University.   The personification of commitment to excellence in his principally federal practice, blue and brown-water work, has earned him a reputation for hard work and the diligent defense of cases.

James T. Bailey joined the Houston office in 2005, and has vigorously defended his clients’ interests in admiralty and maritime litigation, casualty insurance, transportation law, and appellate practice.   Through hard work, intense preparation, and diligence, James established himself as a strong advocate who can achieve quality results for his clients.   In trial, he has obtained defense verdicts in both state and federal court, and has prevailed for his clients before the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, the Texas Supreme Court and many Texas Courts of Appeal.   At GJTBS, James also has been active outside the courtroom, having presented seminars on the Jones Act, maintenance and cure, impairment ratings, and the use of Independent Medical Examinations in litigation.  Entering his eighth year proudly serving his clients in the maritime and offshore oil and gas industries, James will continue to make the goals of his clients his own, and commit himself to their achievement.

Michael “Mike” Lonegrass, a native New Orleanian, joined the law firm in 2002.  Mike represents a variety of clients in commercial and civil disputes, including personal injuries, contracts, residential and commercial construction defects, environmental exposures and land contamination.

Galloway, Johnson, Tompkins, Burr & Smith has provided exemplary legal service for over a generation to a host of local, national and international clients in dozens of industries.  The gratitude of these clients for the quality of our representation and the insistence of these clients for “local” counsel, has enabled the firm’s continual expansion, now hosting over ninety attorneys in nine cities located in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida and Missouri.

Galloway, Johnson, Tompkins, Burr & Smith is listed as one of the “Top 10 Law Firms” for insurance litigation by Martindale-Hubbell and twelve of our attorneys are recognized in New Orleans Magazine’s “Top Lawyers 2009.”  Galloway attorneys are experienced in the litigation of insurance, maritime, products liability, employer’s liability, worker’s compensation, general casualty, automobile liability, professional liability, construction, transportation, environmental law, energy industry, and corporate law matters.
