Special Counsel Megan Jackler of Galloway’s Greater New Orleans offices will present at the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) Mid-South Conference, held in New Orleans on November 13-14, 2026. Jackler, a former supervisory immigration judge, will be speaking on best practices in light of the many procedural and substantive changes to immigration court practice during the current executive administration.
Joining Jackler in “Virtue in The Courtroom – Back to the Basics: Objections, Motions, and Record-Making for Effective Advocacy” will be Hon. Assma Ali, Mississippi Judge and immigration attorney, Ionela Sierra of the Ambrosio Legal Group, and Maximiliano G. Gluzman, Assistant Professor of Law at Belmont University College of Law.
As immigration court proceedings accelerate, effective removal defense requires a thorough understanding of courtroom procedure and the strategic use of available legal tools. This session explores how practitioners can identify defects in charging documents and government evidence, preserve critical objections, build a strong record for appeal, and use procedural motions to protect opportunities for relief. Jackler and her fellow panelists will also examine underutilized strategies, including administrative closure, continuances, and the status docket, to help preserve options for clients pursuing collateral immigration benefits.
