Galloway Johnson Tompkins Burr & Smith, a premier Dallas corporate defense and litigation firm in Texas, hosted a Roundtable Symposium on March 12 at the Omni Frisco Hotel at the Star. The event gathered industry professionals and Galloway attorneys for meaningful and collaborative dialogue.
Mark “Tiger” Pharr, who serves as managing director of Galloway’s Dallas office, was joined by Kelly Hartmann, Timothy Hassinger, and Jason Wilson. Each brought their expertise and experience to the table, providing their legal acumen and knowledge to the proceedings.
Guests included Galloway clients, professional colleagues in Dallas, and sponsors. All engaged throughout the day while learning from Galloway attorneys and each other. Participants shared the importance of attorneys being trusted business partners who truly understand the local communities, jurisdictions, and the corporation’s significant brand reputation. Galloway Johnson Tompkins Burr & Smith has the national resources but the regional reach as community champions that appreciates and values local relationships, community dialogue, and cultivated brand reputations that speak to community members and consumers.
The symposium focused on enhancing claims handling and litigation strategies. Conversations included the challenges and opportunities associated with claims handling and litigation strategies, such as effective communication between insurers and defense counsel. An additional topic was understanding and responding to clients’ needs by meeting evolving expectations of corporate clients, strategically improving responsiveness and transparency, and collaborating between legal teams and risk management.
Galloway attorneys and guests also discussed the changing landscape of jury verdicts and legal trends, with an analysis of recent verdict trials, their impact on defense strategies, and how social and economic factors influence jury decisions. With many participants handling cases nationwide, participants collaboratively discussed the rise of nuclear verdicts, or a jury award that is significantly larger than what is typically expected or considered reasonable in a case, with one example of “the Hulk verdict” in Georgia stemming from the $140 million verdict awarded to Hulk Hogan in his lawsuit against Gawker Media. The Galloway team added their insights and expertise in defensive strategies that can be implemented when plaintiffs use methods such as the Edge, which was previously known as the Reptile Theory.
Finally, the symposium ended with a dialogue on proactive claims strategies that improve case outcomes and collaboration between insurers and defense attorneys to maximize efficiency.
